报告内容简介:

        In light of the energy crisis and climate change, the UK government has set a bold goal to increase the capacity of offshore renewable energies, such as wind, wave, and current energy. To meet this growing demand, the development of floating platforms for renewable energy devices is rapidly advancing. However, designing these structures to withstand the complex offshore environment, which includes additional loadings from waves, current, and wind, along with their interactions, poses a considerable challenge. An integrated Computational Fluid Dynamic model that can accurately and efficiently predict the hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, and the associated 6 Degree-of-Freedom motions of the floating structure is crucial. This model is highly desirable for both academic research and practical engineering design in the field of offshore renewable energy. The high-fidelity numerical wave tank (NWT) has been successfully implemented in OpenFOAM by incorporating a multi-region overset mesh solver and a fully nonlinear potential flow model. This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the developments and applications of these high-fidelity numerical wave tanks in OpenFOAM, specifically focusing on their use in the design and optimisation of offshore renewable energy devices. This talk will also discuss the ongoing work and challenges in this area. It is anticipated that this research will play a pivotal role in the creation of safe and efficient floating offshore structures for renewable energy, thereby meeting the increasing demand for renewable energy from offshore regions.
