Pollution History of Nutrients, Black Carbon and Toxic Metals in the World’s Largest Freshwater Estuary Over the Past Century
报告内容简介:
The bay of Green Bay, the world’s largest freshwater estuary located in the Laurentian Great Lakes, has experienced significant ecological and environmental changes over the past few decades due to increased anthropogenic activities and the introduction of invasive species. As a hypereutrophic estuary, it has been designated by EPA as an Area of Concern since the 1980s. This presentation will explore case studies on the pollution history and depositional fluxes of nutrients (particularly phosphorus), black carbon (soot), toxic metals (including Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, Co, Ni, Cr, and As), and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the bay of Green Bay, a seasonally hypoxia-influenced freshwater estuary in Lake Michigan, over the past 100–200 years.
