Submarine science is experiencing a revolutionary change from short-term "investigation" on the surface to long-term "observation" in the deep ocean. An all-round long-term observation system based on the seabed for the ocean and under the seabed is becoming a new form of international ocean exploration and research. The enthusiasm of various domestic departments to build various types of ocean observation systems is also unprecedented. The purpose of this series of meetings is to survey and exchange scientific research achievements and experiences of seabed scientific observation at home and abroad, discuss the construction strategy of China's seabed observation system, and promote exchanges and cooperation among various systems, units and specialties at home.

The first to fourth Seabed Observation Science Conferences were held in Shanghai, Xiamen, Qingdao and Zhoushan in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 respectively. Many experts and scholars from home and abroad attended each session. In order to uphold the fine tradition, promote the construction of the submarine observation network and promote the development of the submarine observation science, the "Fifth Seabed Observation Science Conference" is planned to be held in Zhuhai from January 13 to 15, 2023. We look forward to the gathering of scientific researchers from all disciplines involved in ocean observation in Zhuhai to display the latest scientific research results. At the same time, we welcome colleges, research institutes, companies and manufacturers to display various products related to long-term submarine observation.
