海科院新闻丨我院承办的SIMSEA元网络会议在珠海圆满落幕
Zhuhai, China, October 2025 – The SIMSEA (Sustainable Initiative for Marginal Seas of East Asia) Meta-Network Meeting successfully concluded on October 18th in Zhuhai. Jointly organized by SIMSEA and Sun Yat-sen University, in collaboration with the Future Earth Meta-Network Initiative and supported by Future Earth Coasts, the meeting brought together experts dedicated to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for marginal seas and coastal areas. The gathering served as the project’s inaugural on-site meeting, held within the 3rd Annual Conference on Marine System Science. It provided a dynamic platform for experts from across Asia to reconnect and welcome new members, united by a shared mission.
中国珠海,2025年10月——东亚边缘海可持续发展倡议(SIMSEA)元网络会议于10月18日在珠海圆满落幕。 会议由SIMSEA与中山大学海洋科学学院联合主办,未来地球元网络倡议协办,并得到未来地球海岸(Future Earth Coasts)的支持,汇聚了致力于推动边缘海与海岸地区可持续发展目标(SDGs)的专家学者。此次会议是该项目的首次线下会议,于第三届海洋系统科学年会上举行。会议为来自亚洲各地的专家学者提供了一个充满活力的交流平台,与会代表在共同使命的凝聚下重聚,并欢迎新成员的加入。

Participants reviewed ongoing works of the eight working groups including national and thematic updates, and aligned next steps for building multi-layered and cross-scale Meta-Networks for enhancing joint actions to realize sustainable and resilient socio-ecological systems across the region. Country updates included progress in monitoring networks, data systems, and partnerships. Working groups outlined next-step activities, including mapping gaps and institutional networks, advancing Core-and-Network System (CNS) implementation, strengthening remote-sensing and data-integration platforms, engaging youth and early-career researchers, reinforcing the science-policy interface, and mobilizing funding. Participants also agreed on several key actions: continue the regional survey and extend institutional mapping; prepare a regional workshop in Manila in 2026 to advance FE Meta-Networks together with multi-scale CNS development; engage space-data and industry partners to build technical capacity; and pursue coordinated funding proposals through mechanisms such as Belmont Forum, APN, and Future Earth programs.
本次会议上,与会代表审议了八个工作组的当前进展,涵盖国家层面与专题领域的动态,并明确了下一阶段工作方向,旨在构建多层次、跨尺度的元网络,以加强协同行动,推动区域内社会生态系统的可持续性与韧性建设。在国家进展方面,汇报内容涉及监测网络建设、数据系统完善及合作伙伴关系拓展等方面取得的成果。各工作组还规划了后续重点任务,包括识别差距与绘制机构网络图、推进核心—网络系统(CNS)落地、加强遥感与数据整合平台建设、促进青年与早期职业研究人员参与、深化科学与政策衔接,以及积极筹措资金。此外,与会各方共同商定了多项关键行动:继续推进区域调查并扩展机构图谱绘制工作;筹备于2026年在马尼拉举办区域研讨会,协同推动未来地球元网络与多尺度CNS的发展;引入空间数据与产业合作伙伴,提升整体技术能力;并通过贝尔蒙特论坛、亚太全球变化研究网络(APN)及未来地球计划等机制,共同推进协调一致的资助申请。

Sun Yat-sen University played a key organizing and coordinating role by hosting the Zhuhai sessions and steering thematic discussions. It also presented the School of Marine Sciences and the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai) as platform hubs—with teams and facilities for field observation, data stewardship, digital-twin development, and training—providing an on-the-ground base to support the meta-network’s expanding workload.
中山大学在本次会议中发挥了重要的组织与协调作用,不仅承办了珠海会场,还主持了专题讨论。同时,中山大学介绍了其海洋科学学院及南方海洋实验室作为平台枢纽,配备有野外观测、数据管理、数字孪生研发与专业培训等团队与设施,为元网络不断扩展的工作提供坚实的落地支持。

This meeting marks a significant step toward a robust meta-network—a“network of networks” intended to break down silos and enable the deep, interdisciplinary collaboration needed to address the region’s most pressing sustainability challenges. Building on this foundation, participants agreed to deepen collaboration between the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, East China Normal University (the host institution of FEC-IPO China) and the School of Marine Sciences at Sun Yat-sen University under the meta-network framework, including joint activities, targeted training, and co-developed guidance on monitoring and data sharing to support regional knowledge co-production and uptake. Looking ahead, the meta-network will consolidate workflows, align partner contributions, and refine mechanisms for sharing data, methods, and communication materials, sustaining steady coordination while delivering tangible outcomes for coastal sustainability across the region.
本次会议标志着构建更加强健的元网络迈出了关键一步。该“网络的网络”致力于打破学科与机构壁垒,推动深度跨学科合作,以应对本地区最紧迫的可持续发展挑战。在此基础上,与会各方同意在元网络框架下深化华东师范大学河口海岸全国重点实验室(FEC国际项目办公室(中国)承办单位)与中山大学海洋科学学院的合作,内容涵盖联合活动、定向培训,以及共同制定监测与数据共享指南,助力区域知识共创与应用。展望未来,元网络将进一步优化工作流程,整合各方资源,完善数据、方法与宣传材料的共享机制,在保持高效协同的同时,持续为区域海岸可持续发展提供实质性成果。
